Title : Assistant Programmer

Term : Part time (20 hours a week), six months, possibly full time after six months. Work from home, fully flexible schedule.

Pay Rate : $1200 / month

Job description / Responsibilities : The assistant programmer would work as an assistant to our lead programmer / webmaster, writing code for new features and modifying existing code based on guidelines provided by the lead programmer. The assistant programmer’s focus will be on the creation of smaller features and small modifications while the lead programmer focuses on major projects.

Requirements:Working knowledge of the following programing languages : # Ruby (Ruby on Rails) ; # PHP ; # SQL (MySQL).

Additional Skills that will be viewed positively : # Flash programming ; # MySQL database optimization experience (on a BSD platform).

We would be happy to offer this job as part of an internship / stage provided the internship / stage guidelines allow students to work from home.

Goal : Anime News Network is looking to hire a motivated junior programmer who is interested in emerging platforms like Ruby and in learning from experienced programmers. Our ideal candidate is a student near graduation who would be interested in a full time career with Anime News Network in 12 to 24 months.

Title : Ad Sales Person

Term : Part time (20 hours/week), contract, semi flexible schedule. Must be available to work 10 hours at least 10 hours a week during business hours (PST, MST, CST or EST). Work from home.

Pay rate : $12k + Annual salary will be a minimum of $12,000. Base salary will be determined by qualifications and skill set. Monthly bonuses on top of base salary. Commission available in lieu of or combined with salary.

Job description / Responsibilities : The ad sales person will be responsible for preparing advertising proposals, presenting advertising proposals and opportunities to potential advertisers, responding to inquiries from interested advertisers, cold-contacting potential advertisers and maintaining advertising campaigns.

Requirements : # Degree in commerce or a related field and/or equivalent experience ; # An appreciation of anime ; # Rudimentary knowledge of the North American anime industry ; # Availability to travel (expenses paid) ; # strong communication skills ; # Ability to think and work independently ; # Reliability ; # Open to shifting to a full time position within 12 months.

Additional Skills that will be viewed positively : # Prior experience as an ad seller/buyer in the online or magazine industry ; # Located in or near New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas or Houston ; # Prior experience working with anime or manga ; # Prior experience with entertainment media.

Our Goal : Anime News Network is looking to hire a motivated individual to take over the bulk of our advertisement sales for Anime News Network and Protoculture Addicts and handle our relationships with existing advertisers and ad agencies. Our editor in chief would work closely with this person on an ongoing basis. We’re looking for someone who is interested in a possible career with Anime News Network, not a short part time job.
